Your heartbeat’s rhythm could be a sign of a disorder called arrhythmia.
Recognizing arrhythmia requires a careful study of the symptoms. Here is a list of common symptoms:
Dizziness
Fainting
Fatigue
Low blood pressure
Palpitations
Weakness
If these symptoms sound familiar, your heart might be experiencing an electrical problem. When left untreated, your irregular heartbeat might lead to feelings of weakness or worse – heart failure.
A list of common procedures and device implants performed in the Electrophysiology Lab include:
Arrhythmia mapping
Cardiac ablations
Cardiac resynchronization devices
Electrical cardioversion
Electrical studies of the heart
Implantable loop recorders
Internal cardiac defibrillators
Intracardiac echocardiography
Pacemakers
Tilt table testing
Since heart function is a complex matter, electrophysiology studies your heart’s electrical system.
Here’s how electrophysiology works.
First, remember that only your doctor can refer you to undergo an electrophysiology study. If your doctor believes your symptoms are a sign of arrhythmia, you’ll be sent to the electrophysiology lab.
Procedures performed in the lab by our highly-trained electrophysiologists:
Catheter ablation
Electrophysiology study
Evaluation and treatment of arrhythmias
Implantation and management of pacemakers and cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD)
