In the Catherization Lab, patients are able to undergo a wide range of both diagnostic and interventional procedures. Many times these procedures are able to correct damaged heart vessels or blockages without the patient having to undergo open-heart surgery. These procedures include:
- Balloon angioplasty
- Coronary and left ventricular digital angiograpy
- Coronary intravascular ultrasound
- Right and left heart catherterization
- Rotational artherectomy
- Stent implantation
The best time to assess a patient’s heart health is prior to the occurrence of a cardiac event. That is why the Cardiac & Vascular Institute places so much value on Nuclear Cardiology in our Stress Lab. Here, we are able to assess patient status, provide patient education and offer a physician consultations. These tests help the physician diagnose problems with blood flow to the heart muscle due to blockages in the heart vessels. Services Include:
- Drug induced stress testing
- Graded exercise stress testing
- Stress echocardiography
Patients can be evaluated by noninvasive medical services including Echocardiology and Electrocardiology. Tests/procedures available in the department include:
- 2D echocardiograms
- 24 hour holter monitoring
- Transesophogeal echocardiograms
- Twelve lead electrocardiograms
These tests help the physician diagnosis problems with heart valves, pumping capacity and electrical systems of your heart. Problems with heart valves, heart muscle and heart rhythm may contribute to your symptoms.
Your doctor may recommend that you have a cardiac catheterization procedure to diagnose or treat a heart condition. Cardiac catheterization involves threading a long, thin flexible tube through an artery or vein, usually in the arm or upper thigh, to the heart.
The procedure may be performed for a variety of reasons, such as diagnosing or evaluating coronary artery disease, congenital heart defects or heart valve problems, as well as, identifying causes of heart failure or cardiomyopathy.
Additional procedures performed in conjunction with cardiac catheterization include repairing certain kinds of heart defects or opening blocked arteries in the heart. Cardiac catheterizations are performed frequently and rarely cause serious complications. For more information about the procedure, talk with your doctor.
In the Interventional Lab, our medical team is able to carry out a wide variety of procedures, both diagnostic and interventional (therapeutic and diagnostic), including:
- Angioplasty and stenting
- Cardiac biopsy
- CTA 64 slice
- Diagnostic cardiac catheterization
- Diagnostic sleep lab
- Electrocardiography and holter monitors
- Pacemaker and ICD insertion
- Stress testing
The Sleep Disorders Center
Sleep disorders prevent many people from getting the sleep they need for proper mental and physical functioning. These potentially life-threatening disorders may cause chronic fatigue, poor job performance, depression, disrupted social relationships, automobile and work-related accidents, high blood pressure, heart failure and stroke.
