Counseling:  Help For Cancer Patients, Families

The Oncology Counseling Program helps patients and family members cope with the emotional and physical challenges of cancer and treatment, offering support, education and practical help. Licensed clinical social workers provide inpatient and outpatient counseling.

Traditional individual and group counseling sessions are available, as well as counseling that uses guided imagery and relaxation methods.  The counselors also offer stress reduction and education for staff.  During counseling, the staff addresses themes such as the emotional impact of illness, the meaning of illness, family difficulties, problems of intimacy, sense of isolation, role changes and cancer-specific concerns.

Patients may request counseling through their physician.
