The Special Deliveries Maternity Unit at Good Samaritan Medical Center is hosting a three-hour program for new dads on the second Saturday of each month. Boot Camp for New Dads is a special program that brings “rookie” fathers-to-be together with “veteran” recent dads and their newborns.
“This program is part of our ongoing commitment to educate and prepare expecting parents,” said Michelle Klein, manager of maternity services. “During the program, men discuss such issues as What do I do once this bundle of joy arrives home, and How do I juggle long hours at work with my new responsibilities at home? All first-time fathers should consider attending.”
“The challenge is that many new fathers have never even held or diapered a baby,” noted Bob Schuemann, director of the Boot Camp for Dads. The veterans also share their babies with rookies for hands-on training and demonstrate how to hold, comfort, diaper, swaddle, relieve gas/colic and play with an infant. The coaches and facilitators keep the three-hour program focuses, humorous and informational.
Any father-to-be interested in enrolling in the boot camp at Good Samaritan should call 561-650-6125. There is a $20 fee to attend, and reservations are required.
